The Dual Path of Dharam

What does it truly mean to live well? Can one path lead to both worldly happiness and spiritual liberation?

Maharshi Kanada, clarified the answer in a single shloka:
“यतोऽभ्युदयनिःश्रेयससिद्धिः स धर्मः”
Transliteration: Yato’bhyudaya-niḥśreyasa-siddhiḥ sa dharmaḥ
Translation: That which leads to both abhyudaya (worldly prosperity) and niḥśreyasa (spiritual liberation) is Dharma.

This revelation is both grounding and uplifting. True Dharma is not about renouncing the world, nor is it about blind pursuit of pleasure. It is the art of understanding the true nature of things—using resources wisely, enjoying life’s gifts, and yet not losing sight of the soul’s journey toward moksha. When we recognize the body as temporary and the soul as eternal, we learn to use the material for the spiritual, making every action meaningful.
